Yuvraj Singh Reveals Conversation With Sourav Ganguly Before Joining Delhi Capitals As Assistant Coach

Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh recently opened up about the conversation he had with Sourav Ganguly before being appointed Delhi Capitals' assistant coach and batting coach ahead of IPL 2027. The Delhi-based franchise has revamped its support staff, with Ganguly taking over as head coach and Yuvraj joining him as his assistant.

As Delhi Capitals continue their pursuit of a maiden IPL title, they will benefit from the guidance of two Indian cricket legends who played key roles in elevating the national team during their careers.

Yuvraj made his international debut in 2000 under Ganguly's captaincy. The pair shared a successful partnership for India over the years, contributing to numerous memorable victories. In a video shared by Delhi Capitals on their YouTube channel, Yuvraj revealed that Ganguly had approached him for the assistant coach's role.

"He (Sourav Ganguly) said, 'Would you be my assistant?' And I was like, 'I've been your assistant for the last 25 years, so I'll probably be doing the same job!" said Yuvraj.

Having established himself as a mentor to several young cricketers, including Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma , Yuvraj expressed his excitement about taking on the new challenge with the franchise.

"I was very happy to do it. I've been building myself up over the last three to four years for this opportunity. I have worked with players individually, but being part of the entire team environment will be a different experience, and I'm really excited about it," said Yuvraj.

The 2011 World Cup winner also praised Ganguly for the leadership lessons he imparted during their playing days, particularly the importance of creating a positive, friendly and supportive environment within the team.

"The best thing I learnt from Dada was how to create a good team environment. When he was captain and I made my debut, he kept us together. He made us believe that we could become a great team and win tournaments outside India," he said.

"He has always been like a big brother to me, whether it was helping me understand selection, mentoring me or showing me what it takes to become a good international cricketer," he added.
